SMS Consent & Messaging Disclosures
Last updated: July 25, 2026
Boxemai provides AI receptionist services (phone answering, website chat, appointment booking) to small businesses. This page documents exactly how a customer consents to receive text messages from a business that uses Boxemai, the disclosures they receive, and how to opt out. Boxemai uses a confirmed opt-in: no informational text message is ever sent to a number that has not replied YES.
SMS is optional
Consent to text messaging is never a condition of service. Booking an appointment, requesting a callback, and every other service work exactly the same whether or not a customer agrees to receive texts. A customer who declines, ignores the opt-in request, or opts out later still receives full service — their booking is confirmed verbally on the call, and the business follows up by phone.
How consent works
- Step 1 — the customer contacts the business first. Every messaging relationship begins with the customer placing a phone call to the business (or starting a chat on the business's own website). Boxemai businesses never message purchased lists, and mobile numbers are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
- Step 2 — the customer provides their number for their booking. During the call or chat, the customer provides (or confirms) the phone number for their appointment.
- Step 3 — the first text is the consent request. If the customer has not previously consented, the first and only message sent is the opt-in request shown below. No appointment details or other informational messages are sent unless the customer replies YES.
- Step 4 — YES starts messaging; silence means no messages. After a YES, the customer receives their booking confirmation and related updates. If they never reply, no further messages are sent.
The exact opt-in message
The first text a not-yet-consented customer receives (with the business's actual name in place of the placeholder):
Verbal opt-in on phone calls
When a customer books an appointment by phone, the AI assistant tells the customer, before the call ends, that a text will be sent and that they must confirm it — for example: “You're all set for Friday! I'll send you a text — reply YES to it and your booking details will follow.” The confirmation text with the appointment details is sent only after the customer replies YES to the opt-in request above.
Written notice in website chat
When a visitor provides their phone number in a business's website chat widget, the assistant presents the messaging disclosure in writing at the moment the number is collected:
Message types and frequency
- What is sent: appointment confirmations, booking notifications and reminders, and callback messages about the customer's own request. No marketing, no promotions.
- Frequency: varies with the customer's appointment or request activity — typically one to a few messages per booking or inquiry.
- Rates: message and data rates may apply.
Opting out and getting help
- Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. Messaging stops immediately; the customer continues to receive full service by phone.
- Reply HELP for help at any time, or email hello@boxemai.com.
- Reply START to resubscribe after opting out.
